HAPPY JULY 4TH!

One more thing, sorry I can´t be around for Independence Day this year! I will miss dancing and chanting with Alexis about this special holiday (she ALWAYS likes to put on a show whenever the family celebrates something, be it a birthday, Christmas, Easter, everything!). Two years ago, she wanted me to perform a series of jumping-jack movements with her (depicting fireworks) and balance herself on my back while chanting, "IT´S JULY 4TH!" over and over again (Don´t worry Alexis, I´ll do one jumping-jack for you to show that I love and miss you.).

This may sound off-topic, but while I, Armando, and Mary Anne were coming back from Ibi, Armando pointed out a range of mountains which are typically covered in snow during the winter. He mentioned that they were known as the Sierra Nevada, from which those in Central California were named after (although they are much shorter). There were no sequoia trees to be seen (sorry, Dad); these are more like the desert mountains in San Bernardino. I also discovered a while back that Sierra Nevada translates to "Snowy Range." That means the state of Nevada literally means "snowy" or "snow-covered" and upon realizing that I thought, "How ironic! How often does it snow in Nevada?" I remember hearing on the news about Las Vegas getting some snow a couple winters ago, but that was an anomaly. I hope Celine Dion loved it, though, since she grew up in Quebec where the land is covered in snow half the year. I´ll bet it transported her right back to her childhood!

Cati,
Happy 4th of July to you! We hope you had fun at the beach celebrating. We will miss you at the BBQ today at Grandma's and Grandpa's.

It is very hot here so we'll be soaking up the heat in the pool. Jason doesn't have to work so he'll be with us.

Dad will call you (our time Wednesday around nine in the morning, yours at six p.m.) If I can I will listen from my cell phone, otherwise Dad will let me know how you are doing. Your blogs are great, but it's like nothing next to hearing your voice.

Jason googled your name Monday night and came up with your name in an article for the CSUF paper when you participated in the talent show singing "Were you there?" It said, "Kandace Head took to the stage in black attire. Her voice echoed through the Titan Theatre in the Titan Student Union on Wednesday.

Head, a French major, performed a song called "Were you there?" as one of the participants in Cal State Fullerton talent show.

The show was hosted by the Student Diversity Program, as part of the Mentoring Network Program for Student Success."

Did you know that your name was in the Daily Titan? Jason found it by chance looking for your blogger and this came up first on the list.

Well, your Dad is calling me to help cut up some watermelon. Thinking of you, take care and God bless.
Love, U.S.A. Mom

Mom,
We did not end up going to the beach after all; they do not allow barbecuing there during this time because it´s considered a fire hazard (the climate in Southern Spain is a lot like So Cal; very hot and desert-like with A LOT of concerns about droughts and water shortages.). So instead I celebrated Lorena´s going-away party with my host family. She will be leaving for Paris to work at Disneyland there. I will be talking to her on the phone later on today in French (hopefully before I talk to you). I never knew my name was mentioned in the Daily Titan, particularly since I didn´t win anything in the Talent Show the second time around.

I hope you had a happy July 4th!
Cati
